In Volume Six, Caddie Magazine travelled to King Island, Tasmania, and played Cape Wickham Golf Links, Ocean Dunes Golf Course, and the local 13 hole golf course, the King Island Golf & Bowling Club.
King Island is a truly remote destination - it might only be a 40-minute light plane trip outside Melbourne, but as soon as you land here you realise - not many people actually make that trip. With a population of just 3,000 residents, who look after around 10x the number of cattle, Beef and Cheese are plentiful on the island. At around a 1-hour drive from top to bottom, nothing is too far away for a day trip, and we made sure to check out the famous beaches that draw surfers from all over the world on an equally adventurous mission.
But the golf here is the real attraction - Cape Wickham is nothing short of world class, and deserves is place in the top 25 courses globally. With epic ocean views from every hole, creative use of unparalleled land forms across the property, and a minimalist but razor sharp presentation, this is a course that brings a sense of satisfaction as soon as you step on the 1st tee. And it only get's better from there. Ocean Dunes, whilst not in the same league, it also an amazing piece of property and a fantastic round of golf.
We hope you enjoy these highlights from the trip and are inspired to visit yourself one day - you'll be glad you did.
