Surendra Prasad Yadav, a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the minister of cooperatives for the state of Bihar, sparked controversy when he questioned the Agnipath programme of the central government, claiming that "eight and a half years hence, the country will have an army of eunuchs." The BJP claimed that Yadav's statement reveals his "mental disorder," while Yadav's own party distanced itself from it. Speaking to the media about the Indian Army and the Agnipath programme, which the Center implemented in Katihar, Bihar, last year, Surendra Prasad Yadav stated that many individuals from Katihar and Puniya, Bihar, join the Army. "Gurkha troops are made up of members of the Indian Army as well as individuals from other countries, such as Nepal.
