The USS Nassau (CVE-16), initially AVG-16 and later ACV-16, was built in 1941 by Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding. Commissioned on August 20, 1942, with Capt. Austin K. Doyle in command, Nassau was part of the Bogue-class carriers. Its WWII service spanned ferry missions, combat actions, and support for key operations. Notably, it played a vital role in the Tarawa invasion and engaged in various Pacific theater activities. After the war, Nassau underwent designation changes, continued missions, and was eventually decommissioned in 1946. In 1961, it was towed to Japan for scrapping.
