The principles of rotational spectroscopy (microwave spectroscopy) is discussed herein. The considerations of molecules as rigid rotor and non-rigid rotor are included. Rotational energies, selection rules, formation of spectral lines and utility of the spectra for structural characterisation are detailed, as well as instrumentation.
