ℹ️Cap At first hemispherical, then erect to flat. Dark gray-brown to almost black, often with rust or ocher spots. Dry, dull and smooth, sometimes uneven or cracked. It usually grows up to 20 cm in diameter, but some specimens reach more.
Tubes White at first, then gradually turn yellow. The pores are tiny, colored like the tubes. They do not bruise under pressure.
Stump At first ovate, then owl-shaped with a broad base. Covered with a whitish to brownish web. The background is usually cinnamon brown, but in some cases it is lighter.
Flesh White and firm and does not change color. It has a pleasant mushroom smell. The taste is pleasant.
Habitat Grows only in deciduous forests, with oak (Quercus), beech (Fagus) and chestnut (Castanea). It prefers warm and sparse forests at low to medium altitudes. Occurs from late spring to fall.
