California lawmakers and their staffers will have a temporary home while the current office space undergoes a $1.2 billion makeover. Assm. Ken Cooley, Chair of the Joint Rules Committee, gave a tour inside the temporary location for lawmakers and their staffers on Wednesday. The governor and some legislators have already moved in and the rest are expected to finish doing the same in the next couple weeks. The current office space at the nearly 70-year-old California State Capitol Annex is slated for a major facelift. While that construction project is underway, legislators will be working out of the Swing Space at 1021 O Street about five minutes away from the Capitol. Cooley said it has taken years of planning and preparation.
