So…What Is a Stylus, Anyway?
Stylus (n.): a pen-shaped pointing device used for entering data (such as positional information from a graphics tablet) into a computer.
There are two types of styluses:
Active stylus
Has a tip like a pen and includes internal electronic components
Features: memory, electronic eraser, pressure sensitivity
Great for: precision
Passive stylus
Conducts the electrical charge from your finger to the screen just like your finger would
Features: stylus tip or top, pen
Great for: touch-free swiping and selecting
On a passive stylus, you can choose from:
Stylus tip
Stylus and ink pen are on the same side
Pen tip extends through a hole in the stylus
Stylus top
Stylus is on the top of the pen, like where an eraser is on a pencil
