So in this video we are going to apply or use the MEDIAN function as a calculated field in our charts or tables from scratch so that you can get the awareness that when where and how we can apply the MEDIAN function using calculated field,
And before we use this function, let's understand the MEDIAN function first.
Median is a type of Aggregation function in looker.
Median function Returns the median value from a set of numbers. And The median is the middle number in a sorted, ascending or descending list of numbers and can be more descriptive of that data set than the average
Now lets go and create a calculated field using MEDIAN in our table
– process–
Syntax → MEDIAN(X)
Parameters X → it is a numeric field or expression.
While using the median function you have to Note that the parameter of median cannot be an aggregated field or the result of an aggregation function.
As we have successfully applied and use the MEDIAN function using calculated field you might have a question in your mind that How does this MEDIAN function works
MEDIAN returns the Centre value if X contains an odd number of values. If X contains an even number of values, MEDIAN will interpolate between the two Centre values.
