Mikhail Kalashnikov was born in the village of Kurya in the Russian Altai region in 1919. He enrolled in school at an early age and showed a strong interest in physics, chemistry, and engineering.
Initially, he designed a submachine gun, but faced initial dissatisfaction from Soviet military leadership. However, further technical experiments led to the creation of the famous Kalashnikov rifle. It was adopted in 1947 and went into mass production, becoming widely used by the Soviet Army.
As a result of extensive testing on the rifles, Kalashnikov suffered from hearing loss, which could not be treated even in his final days.
