This is a test of a $350 mountain bike at Snow Summit in Big Bear California. The bike is a Diamondback Axis hardtail mountain bike with 27.5 inch wheels and a suspension fork. I wanted to see how a good name brand cheap mountain bike would do on a downhill run. I bought this mountain bike for $350, and it is tough enough to handle fast downhill runs, but the fork isn't very good, and it is a rough ride on rocky trails and jumps. So my conclusion is that you can get a tough sturdy mountain bike for $350, but you can't get a good mountain bike with full suspension that cheap. And suspension is very important if you are running down the black diamond downhill slopes with big jumps. The Diamondback axis is still a good value for $350, but if you plan to ride downhill runs regularly, the Diamondback Recoil Comp is a much better and more comfortable bike for $799. My son rode the black diamond downhill runs on it and was fine except for a flat tire.
Here is my review of the $350 Diamondback Axis.
