Still a very new addition to the cross-country race weekend, the the third Cross-Country Short Track race (XCC) of the season took a new shape at Val di Sole's World Cup round in Italy. The 1km course boasted more elevation and technical sections than previous tracks, and the lack of asphalt or any areas to regroup and recover meant that tactics would have to change for this race. A steep, short climb right out of the start and a technical descent near the end of the track kept riders on their toes throughout.
The valley of the sun lived up to its name on a baking hot day in the Trentino Alps for Round 4 of the UCI XCO World Cup in Val di Sole. It was a case of keeping cool before and during the race for the elite women and men of cross-country. The Val di Sole track is among the more physically demanding courses on the World Cup circuit – go full-gas too early and you'll pay for it later with exhaustion.
