The F-100 Super Sabre, one of the most hardcore and one of the well known fighters of the Vietnam War, right up there alongside the F4 Phantom, F-105 and B-52. She was flown by some of the most skillful pilots the USAF had ever produced, risking their lives to complete their missions in the most dangerous conditions.

I have been wanting to cover the F-100, the first of the century series, for a while. She was the first jet powered military jet to go supersonic in level flight, and finally here she is, I hope I have done the Hun story service.

She flew more missions than any other aircraft during her service in the Vietnam war, chalking up tens of thousands of missions during that time.

North American hoped the Super Sabre would be an air-to-air fighter that could stand up to the best the Soviets could put up against her. Even though she didn’t work out as well as a fighter with a higher accident rate, she was still important for testing new tech and tactics, especially in risky close-support missions during the Vietnam War.
