The Tar Heels opened their 2024-25 season with an 83-53 win over the Buccaneers. North Carolina dominated the low post, outscoring Charleston Southern 48-22 in the paint. UNC also scored 28 points off of 21 Charleston Southern turnovers. Alyssa Utsby was Carolina's leader in points, rebounds, and assists in the game, with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Lexi Donarski scored 14 points on 6-11 shooting. Trayanna Crisp came off the bench to score 11 points for North Carolina.
