The life of a group of rare spider monkeys is the main thread that runs through this film, and to which we return as the story unfolds. These monkeys have an interesting and intricate social structure that has never been captured on film in the wild in such detail.

Monkeys are selective in their feeding habits, only eating ripe fruits and carefully avoiding immature ones. The trees and plants of Amazonia have produced seeds that are covered in delicious pulp that the monkeys cannot resist and the hard seed passes through the monkeys gut which softens the seed coat allowing germination. The monkeys often feed on high-climbing lianas and, from time to time, on fermenting fruits. And then it's not unusual for them to become drunk, and collapse in heaps of hilarious monkey laughter.
