This is a recipe for Poverty Pie that goes all the way back to The Great Depression, maybe even farther. My Mom grew up during The Great Depression. Like many children did at the time, she dropped out of school in the mid-1930's, at the age of 14, to get a job and earn money for the family. She became a cook and housekeeper for a wealthy family. That is where she learned how to cook American food and when her life-long love of collecting recipes began. This is a very simple recipe to make and requires only a few very basic ingredients.
