We were doing a 4WD Sand Driving Course on Bribie Island and for most of it we drove on the soft sand for training/experience. We got stuck at this point when the back slide down the incline and tried to come back up the incline at an angle. The sand slid down under the vehicle and compressed forming "solid" ground layer that could not be overcome by the wheel traction. You can see the compaction in this video.
This is our initial attempts at extraction. Note that we used boards, etc for this as it was a learning exercise. It's likely that a simple reverse tow out could have worked as well.
