I tried growing sweet potatoes at my allotment garden, in the UK. Yep, that's right. Probably one of the most tropical vegetables out there which you wouldn't associate with growing in the not so tropical UK.
I like to give stuff a go, however. And this year I was determined to grow some sweet potatoes, no matter how big or small I manage to grow them!
We started these sweet potatoes all the way back in February on the heat mat under the grow lights. Slips appeared after about a month, then we let those slips grow for a few weeks before picking them off and rooting them in water.
I then planted those rooted slips in 30 litre containers in the polytunnel down at the allotment. They've been on the go for 9 months! A lot of care and anticipation.
Let's have a look at our sweet potato 'harvest'. Was it a waste of time?
