Landscape design expert, Sara Bendrick, answers the questions she gets all the time about the best fire pit options.
Her clients are always asking for fire pits whenever she’s working on a project, here she shows some great options from Wayfair.com to help you make the most of your yard!
A fire pit makes your backyard warm and cozy for family and friends, year round. They are inexpensive, easy to use, and cost take little to maintain.
While stationary pits tend to last longer, portable fire pits are great for camping and tailgating. Fire pits are super functional. From cool summer evenings to roasting s’mores in the snow, you can enjoy your backyard year-round with warmth, ambiance, and a blazing bonfire.
Look for a fire pit that will turn your backyard into the outdoor space of your dreams. This hot commodity is available in all shapes, sizes, and styles to fit your yard and home style.
Round metal fire pits and square stone pits are just some of the most popular styles. These are great for gathering around. Fire pit tables extend a safe-to-touch lip around the fire combining the warmth of a campfire with the convenience of a coffee table.
Many fire pits have covers that keep embers and sparks from jumping up, many also have grilling grates for easy outdoor cooking. A chiminea (sounds like a chimney, right?) keeps smoke up and away. Many chimineas have a grate so you can grill on them, too! Sara suggests setting up seating in a u-shape around the chiminea, because the heat is more direct like a fireplace than a fire pit.
Finally, she talks fire fuel. Gas or propane fire pits use a gas line or tank for fuel. Wood-burning pits are inexpensive to buy and to use, just be sure to stock up on wood.
Now, before you set your fire pit up, keep these safety tips in mind: Fire pits should be at least ten feet from your house and porch. Clear away tree branches that could catch fire. Always set the fire pit up on leveled concrete, stone, or brick ground. Not on a wooden patio or grass. Safety first, avoid the worst, right?
Lastly, before you buy a fire pit, be sure to check local regulations; some towns limit the size of the pit you can have, or might require you to have a permit. Thanks for watching!
