(30 Dec 1994) In the Dagestan village of Khasvyurt, Chechen and Russian refugee
children celebrated the new year on Friday at a party organised by
village administrators. The party, which took place at the local
kindergarten, included dancing and presents, donated by the
Chechen community in Khasvyurt. Thousands of Chechens have fled to
Khasvyurt in the past few weeks to escape the Russian bombing of
Grozny and other towns.
