The birthplace of The Bluetits is a north facing beach called Porthsele, in Pembrokeshire. I live above it on Pencarnan Farm, which is also a caravan and camping site. I have grown up quite used to power of the wind here. I have also grown up witnessing the havoc it can cause. When I was a child the caravans pitched here were small touring type ones. My father always took them off their pitches in the winter months, when the site was closed, to protect them from the winter storms that rage in from the north. Sometimes however the storms came early, and I saw many a caravan on its roof when I was growing up. With knowledge gained form the carnage that the wind was capable of causing, we learnt new techniques for tying them down, and we haven't lost a caravan for thirty years. This is good news, but I still don't rest easy when the wind blows, and boy did it blow last weekend. I would like to say it was the worst storm I have ever witnessed here? I certainly don't remember one quite as brutal, but I probably say the same after every storm. It was certainly the first time I have ever seen a red alert for our area.
any dipping over the weekend was definitely a NO! The wind was so strong I couldn't even make it down the rocky steps to the beach...but then I'm not as nimble as I use to be maybe?! I did make it to the patch of land above the beach with the grands and other various family members keen to take some shots of the raging sea and the 'snow storm' of sea foam blasting up the valley. It was wild!
