🧠Cerebellar Testing🧠
The cerebellum is located in the back of your brain.
It assists with coordination and a wide variety of functions in your brain and body.
It holds more than half of the neurons of your body.
Infections, congenital disorders, inflammatory conditions (MS), genetics, infections, vitamin deficiencies, stroke and cancer can affect the health and functioning of the cerebellum.
As a result, symptoms such as tremors, paralysis, dizziness, ataxia (loss of coordination), dysarthria (difficulty with speaking) can arise.
In this video, I review 3 similar tests that can be performed to assess the functioning of the cerebellum.
1. Rapid Altenrating Finger Movements - using your thumb to touch each finger and reverse order. Looking for fluidity, coordination, and rhythm of movement.
2. Finger to Nose Test - Looking for accuracy and presence of overshooting/undershooting target
3. Pronation/Supination - Another type of rapid alternating movement (RAM) looking at coordination, rhythm and speed.
Note: This is not medical advice. This is for educational purposes only.
If you are having new onset issues with coordination and balance, speak with your family physician.
Educate. Empower. Exercise.
