The Utah War (1857-1858) describes armed conflicts between the Mormons and the U.S. Armed Forces in the Utah region. Although the conflicts lasted from May 1857 to July 1858, a compromise was reached without a large-scale military operation. According to the agreement, the Mormon leader Brigham Young, who was in charge of the Utah region, resigned, while US President James Buchanan withdrew the accusation of treason and declared a general amnesty.
