Middlesex resumed on 177-4 on Day 3 with Voges 81* and Simpson 50*. Simpson was out for 63 after they had added 180 runs for the 5th wicket. But one wicket bought more and 4 wickets fell for just 19 runs in 7 overs, leaving Middlesex on 227-8. Voges was still there however, and joined by Patel, who settled in defending at the other end, he continued to push towards avoiding the follow-on, adding 72 runs for the 9th wicket. But it was Voges who was the 9th wicket to fall, for a fantastic innings of 150, and Middlesex were soon all out for 309, still trailing by 177 runs (Barker 4-47, Patel 4-119).
Asked to follow-on, both openers were out before much of the deficit had been removed, but that bought Denly (37) & Dexter (36) together, who added 68 runs for the 3rd wicket, but both were out in relatively quick succession & Middlesex were 110-4. This brought Voges and Simpson back together. The pair tried to bat through till stumps but Simpson was out just before, and at stumps Middlesex were 147-5, still trailing by 30 runs with Voges 15* & Roland-Jones 1*.
