The Elyria Fire Department is investigating an overnight house fire that claimed the life of one person.
The incident happened at approximately 3 a.m. on Christmas Eve morning on the 300 block of Brandtson Avenue.
Elyria Fire confirmed the victim to be Watu Brown Jr., a 29-year-old man from Columbia Station.
According to Elyria Fire Chief Joe Pronesti, the house is considered a total loss after significant fire damage sustained. The fire also extended to the two neighboring houses.
“It’s just a tragedy. Any time you have a fatal fire, it’s a tragedy. It’s just compounded because of the Christmas season. It’s sad," Pronesti told 3News' Kaitor Kay.
The incident is currently under investigation.
