Koohrang waterfall is the primary source of the Zayandeh Rud.

Koohrang Tunnel, also known as Koohrang Tunnel Waterfall , is located northwest of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Polytunnel and 5 km from Chalgard city. Thanks to its location in an area with good weather, c is next to Dime Spring, Pearl Spring, Sardab Spring, Plain of overturned tulips, Chama Ice Cave, Chalgard Ski Resort, and Seraghasid terraced Village. (known as Masuleh Zagros), One of the many tourist-entertainment attractions of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, Koohrang Tunnel hosts many tourists in spring and summer.
The first tunnel of Koohrang has an exciting history. Many unsuccessful attempts were made to build it throughout history, but the first attempt was made during the Sassanid period.
The Koohrang 1 Dam is a masonry gravity dam on the Koohrang River about 4 km (2.5 mi) southwest of Chalgard in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, Iran. The primary purpose of the dam is to divert up to 320,000,000 m3 (260,000-acre⋅ft) of water annually via the 2.8 km (1.7 mi) long Koohrang 1 Tunnel to the Zayandeh Rud to the east, where it would help supply water for cities like Isfahan. Since the era of Shah Abbas I, attempts have been made to diver the Koohrang to the Zayandeh. Eventually, efforts by Alexander Gibb between 1948 and 1954 led to the completion of the Koohrang 1 Dam and Tunnel.
The Koohrang River, the main source of the Karun and Zayandeh Rud, originates from the heights of Zard Kouh, the second highest peak of the Zagros Mountains. This river is one of the nature tourism attractions of Shahrekord. Three consecutive tunnels on the Koohrang River transfer part of the water from this river to Zayandeh rud. The first tunnel of Koohrang is the oldest tunnel among them. Another part of the water of the Koohrang River, after traveling along with some other local rivers, flows to the Beheshtabad region (a village in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari), where it merges with the water of the "Kiyar" River and forms the small Karun. Further, the Koohrang and "Bazeft" rivers combine to go to Karun.
