Karachi, Sep 15 (ANI): Pakistan's moon-sighting committee declared that the Eid-al-Adha, a three-day Muslim festival of sacrifice will start in the country on September 25 subject to sighting of the new moon. Pakistan usually remains a day behind from most of the Muslim countries in marking Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha festivals due to the new moon sighting. In Saudi Arabia and other gulf counties, Eid-al-Adha will be celebrated on Thursday. Comprised of leading clerics, the meeting of the moon sighting committee, locally called Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, decides about the Eid crescent. Meteorological and other concerned departments provide technical assistance to the committee. They convened on Monday but the moon was not sighted, and the committee decided that first day of the month of Zulhijjah in Pakistan will be on Wednesday and Eid-al-Adha will be observed on Friday. Muslims celebrate Eid-al-Adha by attending early-morning prayers, gathering together with friends and sacrificing an animal, commemorating the willingness of the prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son.
