MANILA, Philippines -- Only one team has clinched a spot in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 75 men's basketball tournament, with the three other slots still up for grabs going into the final week of the elimination round.
The four-time defending champions Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles clinched the No. 1 seed and a twice-to-beat advantage last Saturday after a hard-fought victory over the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.
The Tigers, the FEU Tamaraws, the De La Salle Green Archers and the National University (NU) Bulldogs are all vying for the last three spots in the semi-finals.
The Tigers and the Tamaraws have the inside track by virtue of their better records, but the Bulldogs and the Green Archers can still catch up.
La Salle and NU are just one game behind the Tams and the Tigers in the UAAP standings.
The Tigers will play their final game of the elimination round on Thursday against the University of the East Red Warriors, while the Archers will also wind up their elimination round against the Adamson Falcons later on the same day.
Meanwhile, the Tamaraws and the Bulldogs will meet again in the re-play of their controversial second round meeting on September 23. -- Dateline Philippines, ANC, September 17, 2012
