Abstract:
The large penetration of Photovoltaic (PV) sources in the power system significantly reduces the dependence on conventional synchronous generators, this leads to reduce the power system inertia. Consequently, any small disturbance is enough to trigger the under-frequency load shedding relays or totally blackout. This paper presents a control strategy for grid-tie inverter to force the grid connected PV power plant in frequency regulation participation. The proposed method based on operating the PV power plants at a point lower than the maximum power point (MPP), while the system inertia is lower than its limits. The proposed method is carried out in a two-area power system using MATLAB/Simulink environment. Simulation results demonstrate that, the proposed method efficiently enhances the frequency regulation and the reserve power in PV power plans can be used to mitigate the frequency deviation.
