Soke Inoue Yoshimi, Rika Usami's legendary master, teaches kata Annan and demonstrates the bunkai (application). Here are the shortcuts to the highlights of this class:
► 1:50 Do not lift and stomp the back foot, but slide it forward when performing teisho-uchi.
► 2:22 Timing: synchronize back foot and teisho-uchi.
► 5:36 Circular block bunkai.
► 6:46 Do not overcomplicate the initial movement.
► 7:48 Teisho-uchi in moto-dachi.
► 8:22 Nukite bunkai is straight, not circular.
► 8:34 Second half of the kata: notice the 45° backstep.
► 10:32 Enpi in shiko-dachi bunkai: step forward, do not jump.
► 11:53 Kanzetsu-geri bunkai.
► 12:27 Morote nukite and overhead throw bunkai.
► 14:09 Gedan yoko-geri bunkai. For maximum effectiveness, the preparation and the execution of both kicks should be performed in a single, smooth movement, not split in two movements. As Soke Inoue said: "Kata is martial art... no time!"
► 18:11 Tateke bunkai.
