The Russian President has called on separatists in east Ukraine to abandon an independence referendum - and he says Moscow has withdrawn troops from the border. Vladimir Putin has been meeting the head of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe about the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. His comments on postponing the referendum on independence appear to open a way to resolving the standoff. Pro-Russia separatists behind the referendum say they will consider whether or not to postpone it.
