A blast of unknown origin happened in Moscow's Institute of General Physics building early on Thursday morning.
An Emergencies Directorate spokesman told Russian news agency Itar-Tass that the five-storey building on Moscow's 5th Magistralnaya Street is owned by the institute, but the blast in fact occurred in a room leased to a private company.
The explosion, which occurred at 1.50 a-m Moscow time, shattered windows in a number of houses nearby.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
