AFRICAN STYLE DRUMS UP ATTENTION
Kenya Fashion Week, a new initiative created to promote fashion designers in Kenya and East Africa, kicked off in upbeat mood with a gala dinner and a glitzy series of catwalks.
First up was a selection of designs by fashion students from across East Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.
The participation of up-and-coming Kenyan model Ajuma Nasenyana - now a regular on catwalks in Europe and the USA - helped to add profile to the event.
Leading Indian designer Satya Paul showed his latest collection, giving the event an international flavour.
The event was rounded off with a presentation from the Search for a National Dress project - an initiative to find a unifying garment that Kenyans can be proud to wear and identify with.
Kenya Fashion Week is now in its fourth year and has gone from strength-to-strength. This year the event moved to a bigger venue to enable more visitors to see the showcase of modern African style.
