Moscow - 15 February 2023
1. Wide of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov entering room with foreign journalists
2. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister:
“Look at the reaction that is being observed in the West in response to (American journalist) Seymour Hersh's very specific, multi-factual revelations about the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 explosions. Just imagine that something similar would be attributed to Russia regarding say a Canada-US oil pipeline. You wouldn't have any other work. Right now you would be forced to write only about this. This is a sensation based on facts which, actually, we have long assumed, but nevertheless, this is a serious journalist who does not renounce his statements, on the contrary, he confirms them daily and calls for response of those who are mentioned in his investigation. And what is the reaction? None.”

4. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister:
“As Biden promised in January last year that this gas pipeline would not happen, as (US Under Secretary of State of Political Affairs Victoria) Nuland promised, as (Former UK Prime Minister) Liz Truss, immediately after the terrorist attack, expressed her delight in social networks, as Radek Sikorsky, my former Polish colleague, wrote ‘Thank you USA’ and how even Nuland was, less than a month, in Congress saying that she shares the joy of the senators about the fact that these gas pipelines a heap of metal at the bottom of the Barents Sea. Is this not a confession? But the funny thing is that no one of the Western media writes about this at all, and Seymour Hersh is fighting with his truth on social networks, in separate Internet channels. But the mainstream media is simply silent about it.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister:
“Seymour Hersh gave the reason: The main thing was not to let Germany feel in an energy comfort zone and not to let Germany start getting gas through those two pipelines that were financed by companies of Russia, Germany, Austria, Italy. They spat in the face of many European companies.”

STORYLINE:
Speaking with journalists in Moscow on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov lashed out at the perceived silence from the mainstream media regarding a report by American journalist Seymour Hersh into the causes of the Nord Stream pipeline explosions.
Earlier this month, the Pulitzer-prize winning journalist published on his Substack claims that a special US naval diving unit covertly planted explosives on the gas pipeline, which connects Russia with Germany under the Baltic Sea.
“Just imagine that something similar would be attributed to Russia regarding say a Canada-US oil pipeline. You wouldn't have any other work. Right now you would be forced to write only about this,” Lavrov said to the journalist corp in the annual meeting.
He went on to say that the positive reaction from western figures to the pipeline explosions, coupled with a silence about Hersh’s reporting, amounted to a confession.
