Double sockets with integrated USB chargers are a popular choice to charge smartphones and other battery-powered devices.

The charging circuit is permanently connected to the mains wiring. We often get asked how much power do they consume when not charging a device.

We explore the no-load power consumption and the inbuilt safety devices within the 13A UK USB charging socket combination.

The European Commission's Ecodesign Directive (2005/32/EC) aims at reducing the environmental impact of energy-related products* (ErPs), including energy consumption throughout their entire life cycle. The Directive establishes a framework for setting Ecodesign requirements (such as energy efficiency requirements) for all ERPs in the residential, tertiary and industrial sectors.
