In this episode we tackle the barrel accuracy main event: the issue of barrel-to-paint boring. But rather than relying on just one test or a couple of tests, I wanted to compile all published test findings (so far as I could access them) into a single data set, and analyze the results. By casting the net wide the hope was to be able to offer a high-resolution picture of what is going on with respect to barrel boring.
Not surprisingly, the data shows a clear trend: accuracy is best with good paint, and worst with bad paint. This is of course to be expected, since paint is what is accurate, or not accurate.
But the data also showed very clearly that while underboring tends to net the best efficiency and velocity consistency, it does not net the best accuracy. On the contrary, overboring, which tends to net neither the best velocity consistency nor efficiency, does in fact tend to net the best accuracy.
And for the record, even though for the sake of convenience we may use terms like 'cause', 'generate', or even 'produce,' let us be clear that no barrel or boring configuration 'causes' or 'generates' or 'produces' accuracy. Rather, the paintball is what is accurate, and the barrel harms that accuracy to a greater or lesser degree.
Thus, overboring tends to hurt the accuracy of paint less, and underboring tends to hurt it more, for possible reasons discussed in the video.
EDIT: Forgot to post links, and to mention that several original sources have gone dead with respect to links. I will post to this whenever new source materials become available. In the meantime, if you have access to the original Paintball Times test article, please post up in a comment. Thanks very kindly!
