Blocking is a really tough skill to perform effectively, as it is the only volleyball skill that you can do 100% correct and not know for sure. It requires a lot of patience and even more discipline to get it right.
In beginner volleyball, swing blocking is mostly done by the middle blockers, but as the level of volleyball increases, almost every player does a swing block. Swing blocking allows us to cover more space, and to do it quickly. Swing blocking also helps us get higher in the air, which means that we are able to press over the net even more and take away options from the attacker.
In this video, I go over the footwork and movement patterns of volleyball swing blocking. I also go over several key things to think about to make sure you are getting to where you need to go as quickly and efficiently as possible!
