The WakaWaka Empower Initiative is a cooperation between the WakaWaka Foundation, the Ivy Foundation and local microfinance institutions in Indonesia. By including a WakaWaka Power or Light within the entrepreneurial loans, women get the chance to repay their loan faster. This provides the women the opportunity to build a sustainable livelihood.
For these women living in countries experiencing energy poverty, they can now for the first time have electricity at night with the help of the WakaWaka Solar Light and Charger. They can charge their electronic devices or light up their living room with safe sustainable energy. By leaving their WakaWaka Power outside during the day, it can absorb enough light to provide energy for their household at night. This means they can cook, do household chores, and work on their business at night. Their children can safely do their homework at night and no longer have to depend on candles or kerosene, which can also be a fire hazard.
With the help of the WakaWaka Empower Initiative, females living in energy poverty can accomplish their goals and continue working on their businesses for three extra hours after the sun goes down. WakaWaka enables women to take control of their future.
