Cricket, the sport that has the power to unite the nation as one. In India it is rightly referred to as a religion, and cricketers are worshiped as gods.
But more often than not we forget our goddesses.
May be that is why when Rohit Sharma scores a 100, we celebrate it like a festival, but when Jhulan Goswami becomes the all time highest wicket taker
she only gets a late congratulation-tweet from the BCCI, which is known to be very active in twitter and other social media sites.
In every interview the women cricketers are asked who their favorite male cricketer is,
Did anyone ever cared to ask a male cricketer about his favorite in the female team?
why?
may be because we don't consider the team as Indian Cricket Team.
May be because in a male dominent world, as the girl is born, it is understood that she has to get married one or the other day.
She has to go to her in-laws, thats fixed, whatever dreams she may have.
Anyway,
They as a international cricket team doing the same thing what our lads are doing. Making the nation proud.
In the currently happening ICC Women's World Cup, they are in supreme touch, they have already beaten the host England and West Indies Women.
Every single member of the team looks pumped up, like they have a point to prove.
Lets know some of our women and their stories
Mithali Raj, The team India Captain and the all time second highest run getter in the histroy of women's cricket.
as a child she was very lazy, cricket was never on her to-do list, she was a classical dancer.
She learnt Bharatnatyam and wanted to grow in that field. But she chose cricket as her career because of her parents.
Her father was a cricketer too, she used to go with him and used to return the balls when it came her way. That was how it started.
Now she is one of the best batters of the world. People call her the Sachin Tendulkar of women's cricket.
Jhulan Goswami, The 34 year old Iron-lady of Indian cricket and an inspiration for her teammates.
She belonged from a middle-class family in Chakdaha, a small town in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
She used to catch a 5am train from Chakdaha to Sealdah in Kolkata, and then catch a bus to cricket practice by 7.30am.
After 9.30, it was another two-hour trek back to her hometown to report to school.
Shows what people can do to for their passion. The 5'11" indian pacer is the all the highest wicket taker in the womens cricket with over 180 dismissals.
She captained the national side from 2008 to 2011.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the 28 year old right hand explosive batter also had a tough previous life.
She was from a small obscure village on India’s map, even her school was at a distance of 25 Km from her village.
In her locality she was blamed for spoiling other girls by motivating them to play cricket with her.
Today because of her last ball six against south africa in the qualifiers final, we are being able to play the World Cup, 2017.
Smriti Mandhana, The left hand opening batter who just scored a 100 in the match against West Indies Women and came to spotlight.
Her elder brother Shravan was an aspiring cricketer who made his name in the early stages.
Whenever her brother's name would come in a newspaper she used to carefully cut and collect the clippings.
It was her dream to see her name printed in the papers for excelling at the sport as well.
Seems like she is making her dream come true.
Ekta Bisht and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, The two left arm spinners of indian team, both of them play very important roles for the team.
Other than the seniors the new comers are doing good for the team as well.
All of Mansi Joshi, Veda Krishnamurthy, Mona Meshram, Poonam Yadav, Punam Raut, Sushma Verma, Shikha Pandey, Nuzhat Parween and Deepti Sharma
are very talented young Indian Players.
So it's the time to wish our girls the very best for the world cup 2017 and for the future.
We need to understand that they are playing for The nation too, they deserve equal respect and rocognition just like our lads.
