Protesters blocked a major highway in Karnataka for several hours on Tuesday against the Supreme Court's order to release more water from the river Cauvery to neighbouring Tamil Nadu. Movement between the two states was badly hit. The protests forced the state government to pull off 700 buses headed to Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, buses and trucks heading to Karnataka were stopped at Hosur along the border.
