In recent years, Sweden has experienced a wave of gang violence, significantly impacting its safety and security. The country's crime crisis has become a major concern, with a surge in firearm homicides and grenade attacks making international headlines.

Since 2013 the number of fatal shootings in the country has more than doubled, according to official statistics. Sweden now has one of the highest gun death rates per capita of any European country, recently overtaking Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia in terms of deaths per 100,000 population; second only to Albania when compared with other European countries.
