If you're ever in Iceland, the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and the adjacent black sand beach will blow you away. I've seen icebergs in both the arctic and Antarctic and I've never seen anything like the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. It's a massive lagoon formed by the melt water of a retreating glacier. The glacier is not only melting into it, but also calving into it. So there are thousands of icebergs in the lagoon that are moved around by the wind. I've never seen so many icebergs anywhere, period. And what makes the whole lagoon even neater is that it's basically at the shore. So, at low tide the water runs out of the lagoon carrying ice bergs with it and at high tide the ocean forces some of the icebergs back into the lagoon. This creates a couple of beaches with literally thousands of dying icebergs on the beach and in the surf. You can walk up to them, you can touch them and of course you can take pictures. It's an experience like none other. Everything is moving and melting. You can spend hours and it's always changing. Riding the zodiac tours into the lagoon is awesome. But walking on the beach might be even more unique. Plus there's a second lagoon just 10 minutes away that's worth a zodiac adventure as well. It's called Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon and it's worth a visit and a zodiac ride as well. Iceland was awesome. The lagoons were awesome beyond description.
