Okay. A hard truth for therapists.
Not every client is going to like you or bond with you.
If may be few and far between but there is a chance that a kid will never bond with you.
And that’s okay. Refer them to someone else. But don’t be offended. Yes, I’ve seen therapists get their feelings hurt because a kid or a family didn’t like them. But don’t be. It’s a normal part of the process.
I’ve had several families leave because they didn’t think I was helping or because they didn’t like my style. And that’s okay. They found a better fit.
It happens to all of us.
It doesn’t mean you are a bad therapist.
