ASPI’s Michael Shoebridge says it is “good news” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was congratulated by French President Emmanuel Macron, describing it as a “peace offering”.
Mr Shoebridge said it would be the “worst case” for Australia-France relations if Scott Morrison was re-elected.
“The worst case for Australia-France relations would have been Emmanuel Macron and Scott Morrison both being re-elected,” Mr Shoebridge told Sky News Australia.
“Because unfortunately, it’s deeply personal between those two.”
