Halasana gets the name from Plow / Plough, a farming tool used in India to prepare the soil before sowing the seeds.
Lie down on your back with hands close to your body and palms down. Inhale and lift your feet off the floor and take up Sarvangasana position. Lower your feet beyond your head and touch the floor. Bend your legs so that your knees touch the floor and covers your head. Hold the position for 2-3 minutes. To come out of the position, slowly return to Sarvangasana position and then lower the legs to the floor.
Halasana improves blood circulation and gives relief from indigestion and constipation. Muscles in the shoulders and cervical region are strengthened. The asana is very effective in eliminating sciatica and other arthritis related problems. Digestive system is also highly benefited by practicing this posture. This posture helps reduce both belly and body fat.
