Marilyn Monroe, the talented actress and singer, was introduced to President John F. Kennedy in 1956 by Peter Lawford, JFK's brother-in-law. It is rumored that Lawford passed Marilyn Monroe off to JFK when he became tired of her, and Monroe was said to be desperate for the President's attention. Marilyn Monroe performed at Madison Square Garden for JFK's 45th birthday celebration, and there are records of her frequently calling the White House. JFK had a documented history of romantic relationships with a number of women, leading some to speculate about a possible affair between Monroe and JFK. There is only one known photograph of Monroe with JFK, taken by White House Photographer Cecil Stoughton at a party after JFK's birthday celebration, and this photo was not released until 2010. Monroe died just weeks after threatening to reveal the true nature of her relationship with JFK, leading to speculation about the circumstances of her death. Some witnesses reported hearing angry voices, including those of JFK and Bobby Kennedy, at Monroe's home the night before she died, and there are theories that the Kennedys may have been involved in her death. However, there is no conclusive evidence to support these theories, and Monroe's death was officially ruled a suicide by overdose.
