A pH meter is an instrument used to measure acidity or alkalinity of a solution - also know as pH. pH is the unit of measure that describes the degree of acidity or alkalinity. It is measured on a scale of 0 to 14.
General Information about Calibration
This instrument facilitates up to two point calibration of temperature and up to 3 point calibration of pH. The software navigates through temperature calibration which is followed by pH calibration on pressing CAL key. Any of the standard 5 pH buffer solutions are automatically selected by the instrument.
The general information about operation in calibration mode is as follows
The calibration mode of temperature cum pH is entered by pressing CAL key. After completion of calibration of temperature the mode of calibration of pH is entered.
Temperature Calibration comes into effect only if Cal key is pressed after Cal Tempr 2 and pH calibration after Cal Buf 3 is displayed. Blinking of back light is an acknowledgement of the same.
Calibration of pH
Any of the standard 5 pH buffer solutions are automatically selected by the instrument. If the selected buffer solution is not in agreement with the actual value, the same can be changed by pressing Up or Down key. If CAL is pressed without change of solution, the CAL value from previous calibration session is picked up. Pressing Home key in-between the procedure will abandon the calibration process.
Cal Buf 1 is displayed, when CAL key is pressed after display of Cal Temp 2. This is displayed on completion of temperature calibration.
Connect the temperature probe and pH electrode to their respective connectors on the rear panel of the instrument.
Calibration in Standard Buffer 1 solution: The display now shows CAL Buf 1. Insert the temperature probe and pH electrode in the any one standard solution buffer. Allow the mV reading to become steady. Now if the selected pH buffer value displayed is same as the actual buffer value and READY appears above pH value, press CAL key. Else the up down key is to be used to bring the selected pH buffer value displayed to standard buffer value and press CAL key.
Calibration in Standard Buffer 2 solution: The display now shows CAL Buf 2. Insert the temperature probe and pH electrode in the any one of the remaining standard solution buffer. Allow the mV reading to become steady. Now if the selected pH buffer value displayed is same as the actual buffer value and READY appears above pH value, press CAL key. Else the up down key is to be used to bring the selected pH buffer value displayed to standard buffer value and press CAL key.
Calibration in Standard Buffer 3 solution: The display now shows CAL Buf 3.
The back light blinks and instrument returns to measurement mode. The calibration procedure is complete now. Pressing home key in-between will abandon the calibration procedure.
