Dr. Jill Biden, First Lady of the United States, visited VCU Massey Cancer Center on February 24, 2021. After a tour of the research labs, Dr. Biden participated in a community event about cancer disparities that was streamed live for a virtual audience.
The program included remarks from Michael Rao, Ph.D., president of VCU and VCU Health System; Ned Sharpless, M.D., director of the National Cancer Institute; Robert Winn, M.D., director of VCU Massey Cancer Center; Jill Biden, Ed.D., First Lady of the United States; and a panel discussion with: Khalid Matin, M.D., associate medical director of the Cancer Service Line at Massey; Vanessa Sheppard, Ph.D., associate director of community outreach, engagement and health disparities at Massey; Rudene Mercer Haynes, JD, advisory board member and co-founder of Facts & Faith Fridays at Massey and partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP; and Rev. F. Todd Gray, co-founder of Facts & Faith Fridays at Massey and pastor of the Fifth Street Baptist Church.
