The edge drill is a quick balance exercise. The aim is to optimize weight transfer. You accheive this by isolating the lower half of your body. Make sharp turns with bent knees and the knees over your toes. If you do it right you will accelerate through every turn.
Try to keep your feet as close together as possible. Reviewing myself, I see I do not keep them as close together as I thought.
The upper body, especially your head, shall follow a straight line. Thus the point of isolating the lower half of your body.
You can try to do it on one leg as well. My attempt is not the best. If you do it correctly, you will be able to accelerate even on one leg.
I got aware of this drill from the youtube channel "The Hockey Movement" who in turn referenced "Mountain High Hockey". I recommend you check out both these channels.
