Ghayedi’s Season Performance:
12 Goals, 4 Assists, 4 Penalties Taken
In 2022, Mehdi Ghayedi returned to Esteghlal from Shabab AlAhli on a one-year loan deal. Although Esteghlal started the year by winning the Super Cup, the club faced many financial challenges and mismanagements throughout the season. In the final match, they failed to win the Hazfi Cup due to the same issues mentioned and ended the league in third place.
Aside from all the challenges, Mehdi Ghayedi carried the club in this season, having the most shots, penalties taken, and man of the match titles amongst all the other players in Persian Gulf Pro League. He became the first Esteghlal player in PGPL history to have an impact on four goals in one match. Ghayedi was the second top scorer of the season.
