Watch out for this tourist trap. I almost fell for it myself a few days ago.
I was really quite annoyed when a shop owner insisted that the dress I tried on was „real silk". She kept refering me to the label, even though I thought something felt off.

That said, over the course of my travels as an anthropologist, I have come across many different types of fabrics and silks;
as well as different production techniques. So, l'm usually quite schooled at detecting polyester.

It took me several tries, and a lot of questioning until the shop owners finally admitted that it was not „real silk", but a „kind of cheaper silk".. really quite frustrating.
So, please be careful when you go shopping at souvenir shops in Greece (and elsewhere). Switch on your thinking hat!
